A Study on Translation of Idioms for International Business Communication

摘要

习语是各国文化的精髓,反映各国的风俗习惯,由于其言简意赅、生动活泼的特点,在国际商务交流中起到了活跃交往气氛、打破谈判僵局、取得商务进展的作用。因此,习语翻译的质量直接影响了商务交流的结果。本文着重以奈达的功能对等翻译理论为基础,论证了将其运用于商务习语翻译的可行性;详细地解析了国际商务交流中习语翻译的问题,并运用实例展现了功能对等在商务习语翻译中的应用。

Abstract

Idioms, which reflect customs, are the essence of culture in every country. Idioms play an important role in relieving pressure, breaking deadlock in negotiations in international business communication because their nature of is concise and vivid. Therefore, the quality of idiom translation directly affects the result of business communication. The purpose in this paper is based on Nida’s functional equivalence translation theory. Its specific analysis proved the feasibility of application of idiom translation. In addition, it presents, through examples in three categories, the application of F-E in business idiom translation.
