摘要

习语是文化的载体，也是语言的精华，具有鲜明的民族特色和丰富的文化内涵。人与动物在这个世界上共同生活了数千年，因此人类常通过生动的动物意象来表述其观点看法，以及描述相关社会现象。动物俚语因此得以创造，而英文和中文都含有大量的动物俚语。

但由于两种文化间的诸多差异，其各自的动物俚语也大不相同，这就为动物俚语的翻译工作带来了极大的困难。文化内涵常被视作理解动物俚语的关键。在动物俚语的翻译中，译者尤其需要注意的就是文化意义和文字特点的转移。

在这样的情况下，由美国著名的翻译理论家、语言学家奈达所提出的功能对等理论，便能在动物俚语的翻译中发挥指导性作用。该理论的核心在于要求译文读者对译文的理解、反应达到原文读者理解原文并做出反应的相同状态。在功能对等理论的指导下，本文作者将多数动物俚语归为四类, 分别是：动物意象及内涵成对对应，半对应，无对应动物意象和语义缺项，还分别研究了其相关的四种翻译策略和技巧，即直译，替代，意译和直译加注，并辅以大量的例子佐证。

此外，对动物俚语的合理分类和恰当翻译可以帮助打破文化壁垒并消除文化误解，还能进一步的促进跨文化交流并增强各国间的相互理解，其作用不可小觑。
