The Foreignization Strategy in Translating Contemporary Chinese Novels── With Yu Hua’s To Live as A Case

摘要

一直以来，中西方翻译者都对异化翻译法颇有争执。异化翻译法1995年由劳伦斯·韦努蒂提出。此篇论文选取中国著名小说家余华的作品《活着》， 具体分析异化在当代中国小说翻译中的应用。

在《活着》中，许多词或者短语采用音译、直译、文外释义的翻译方法，表达出中国的语言文化以及传统习俗风貌，同时外国语言也得到了一定程度上的丰富。此外，随着中国在国际地位上的日益提升，翻译越来越注重对中国的语言文化，习俗风貌的了解及学习。这在很大程度上，抵制了文化霸权主义。

翻译中，异化策略在翻译中显得日益的重要。在结合其他翻译方法的基础上，译者应当更多的使用异化的翻译技巧。

Abstract

Both Western and Chinese translators have been concerned a lot about the strategy of foreignization, which was brought up by Venuti in 1995. This paper chooses To Live, the novel of the famous Chinese novelist Yu Hua, and analyzes the application of the foreignization in translating Chinese contemporary novels in detail.  

In To Live, many words and phrases are adopting literal translation, transliteration and annotation to articulate the Chinese language, culture and traditional customs. At the same time, the foreign language enriches itself a lot. Furthermore, with the development of China, the translation activities pay more attention to Chinese language, customs. The foreigners want to get known and learn more about China. To a great extent, it will resist cultural hegemony.

Above all, foreignization strategy is increasingly important. In combining with other methods, translators need to use foreignization more.
