An Analysis of the Male Character from Female Perspective in Runaway 

摘要

门罗的短篇小说《逃离》讲述的是在一个从父女身边逃离到丈夫身边的女人，有一天突然坐上车子，想再一次逃离却失败而归的故事。门罗以塑造女性形象见长，而本文中她在女性叙事话语下对男性形象也进行了创造性的刻画。克拉克原本在卡拉眼里是一个完美的有梦想的吉卜赛式情人，婚后的他却是脾气火爆、不可理喻、自私冷漠，在卡拉出逃失败的影响下，克拉克暴露了他控制欲极强、有暴力倾向的人格。本文采用文本分析方法和女性主义叙事学，从多角度对小说中女性视角下的男主人公进行细致分析，剖析了在三个阶段中男主人公的行为和形象，并将他和小说的主要关怀对象卡拉联系起来，揭示了女性意识随着其对男性形象认识的深入而成长，却又陷入他者伦理的僵局。

Abstract

Runaway is a short story written by Alice Munro. It tells the story that a woman, who runs away from her parents to live with her husband, one day gets on a bus to runs away for the second time but fails. It ought to be a story of establishing ones Subjectivity, but it ends up with the failure of Carla’s runaway. Her compromise forms an anticlimax. Munro is good at creating female characters, but the male character shaped from female perspective is also innovative. The thesis will consist of careful analysis on the male character from multi-aspects, three stages, including his behaviors and images. After relating the male character and the mostly cared Carla in the short story, it is revealed that as her evaluation of the male become deeper, her female self consciousness grows. Yet she falls in a dilemma of alter ego in the end.
