摘要

2007年, 新西兰作家劳埃德·琼斯凭借着他的作品《皮普先生》一举夺得英联邦作家奖，该书还列入了小说界的“诺贝尔奖”-布克奖的候选名单，次年获得了桐山太平洋图书奖。本篇论文将探讨引发女主人公玛蒂尔达蜕变的因素。主要分为五部分。第一部分主要简单介绍该书作者及《皮普先生》这一小说。第二部分主要集中于玛蒂尔达的困境，包括她的母亲和老师之间的冲突，同时也代表着两种文化的冲突，其次是发生在小岛上的内战种种对玛蒂尔达造成的影响。第三部分主要讲述的是《远大前程》一书，经过皮普先生的改造，重述对玛蒂尔达蜕变产生的影响。第四部分围绕论文标题对玛蒂尔达的蜕变进行论述。第五部分是对本篇论文的总结阐述。本篇论文主要目的是表明文学的力量对于一个人的巨大影响，告诉人们如何逃出困境，实现超越，发现新世界。

Abstract

In 2007, New Zealand writer Lloyd Jones won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Overall Best Book Award for his novel Mister Pip. Mister Pip was also short-listed for the Man Booker Prize in 2007 and was awarded the 2008 Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize. This thesis focuses on revealing the reasons of Matilda’s metamorphosis. The paper consists of six parts. Part One is the introduction of the author and the novel. Part Two focuses on the conflict between Matilda’s mother and Mr Watts. Part Three is talking about the civil war and its influence on Matilda’s metamorphosis. Part Four is mainly about the retelling of Great Expectations and the effect of this book on Matilda. Part Five considers the metamorphosis of Matilda. Part Six is the conclusion of the paper. The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate how the power of literature affects an individual’s life. The article invites readers to examine how to get out rid of crisis, and then there is a whole new world when they get out of the difficulties.
