The History of "Stolen Generation" - A Study of Aboriginal Culture in Australia

Abstract

Aboriginal people are the earliest inhabitants of Australia, whose ancestors can be dating back to seventy thousand years ago in Australia. They are nomadic, scattered throughout Australia and form their own unique and mysterious culture. When the British colonists landed in the second half of the 18th century, the fate of the indigenous people was filled with blood and trembling. The stolen generation refers to the generation of the “assimilation policy” that the Australian government has implemented between 1909 and 1969 (in some places until 1970).

This paper intends to analyze the history of “stolen generation” from the perspective of culture, through the study of Chinese and foreign literature, and on the basis of the research results of Chinese and foreign experts and scholars, combined with a large number of representative Australian indigenous culture phenomena and events, and elaborate the research history at home and abroad for Australia “stolen generation”, and analyze the evolution of its culture in the early and late stages of the implementation of the White Australian policy, and put forward the countermeasures to protect the culture of Aboriginal people in Australia.
