D.H.劳伦斯是20世纪著名的英国作家，《请买票》是选自他的短篇小说集《英格兰，我的英格兰》中的一篇短篇小说。故事主要描述了男女主人公约翰安妮之间关系变化的过程以及之后安妮联合其他几位女性一同对约翰进行疯狂殴打的报复结局。本文旨在通过研究其背景设置，人物名称与形象，各种意象及主题所蕴含的象征意义找出与情感相关联的人物真实的内心世界和作者所强调的多重主题。通过细致的文本分析，本文发现通过各种的象征手法，劳伦斯意图揭示战时非正常的男女关系以及女性对待男女关系时展示出来的强势态度与行为。本文通过阐释文中象征主义的应用，对劳伦斯的写作目的进行了研究，得出其写作目的可被实现并揭示以下的深层含义。就安妮内心世界的变化而言，她首先选择了压抑自己的欲望，接下来却连同其他女性想要占据两性关系中的支配地位。在主题设置上，作者向我们展示了工业化社会中扭曲的人性以及他对于工业化的反对态度。他也揭示了爱情与本能冲动在两性关系中的角色，这两者与其关系的变化息息相关。此外，该小说引起读者对性相关问题的关注，进一步思考人与自然、人与人之间的关系。

Abstract

D. H. Lawrence is a famous British writer in the 20th century. Tickets, Please is selected from Lawrence’s collection of short stories England, My England. This story mainly describes the process of the change of the relationship between John and Anne and Anne’s crazy beating of John with several other women as the revenge. By analyzing the symbolic meanings embedded in its background settings, characters and names, various images and topics, this thesis aims to find out the real inner world that connects with characters’ emotions and multiple themes emphasized by the author. Through careful text analysis, this thesis finds that Lawrence explores the abnormal relationship between men and women in war-time and women’s aggressive attitude and behavior towards the relationship through a variety of symbolic means. This thesis studies Lawrence’s writing purpose through explaining the application of symbolism. It concludes that the writing purpose can be achieved by using symbol and shows these deep meanings as follows. In Annie’s change of inner world, she suppresses her desire at first but she wants to keep a dominant position with other women in the following content. For the themes, Lawrence shows the contorted humanity in the industrialized society and his opposed attitude towards the industrialization. He also reveals the role of love and instinctive impulse in the relationships between men and women. These two factors closely link to the change in the relationships. Moreover, it arouses readers’ attention to sexual issues and reflects the relationship between human and nature and among human beings.
