A Study of the Translation Strategies Adopted in The Legend of the Condor Heroes_英语论文

摘要

武侠小说是中国武侠文化的文学体现，也是中国传统文化的重要组成部分。几乎每一个中国的年轻人都有着武侠梦。对于中国读者来说，金庸毫无疑问是最著名的武侠小说作者。金庸被誉为中国武侠小说的先驱之一，在1955-1972年间撰写了15篇武侠小说。射雕英雄传是他其中一部著名代表作。然而，这篇武侠小说正式的英语译文直到2018年才正式出版。本研究以苏珊巴斯奈特及其支持者提出的翻译研究中的文化转向理论作为理论基础，详细研究《射雕英雄传》的翻译策略。功能对等是文化转向理论的重要组成部分，主要包括语言形式和意义的对等。经过对《射雕英雄传》中的章节名、人名的翻译策略研究，我们得出以下结论：绝对的功能对等几乎是不可能实现的，译者在进行翻译工作时会选用不同的翻译策略以追求最大程度的对等，使译文更具可读性。

Abstract

Martial art fictions write about Chinese martial culture, which is so important in Chinese traditional culture that almost every young Chinese has dreamed of becoming a swordsman. For Chinese readers, the most famous writer of martial art fictions is undoubtedly Louis Cha. With 15 works written from 1955 to1972, Louis Cha is regarded as one of the pioneers of Chinese martial art fictions. The Legend of the Condor Heroes is considered to be one of his masterpieces. However, there is no official translation of it published until 2018. In this study, translation strategies adopted in The Legend of the Condor Heroes are analyzed within the theoretical framework of cultural turn in translation studies. Functional equivalence, which mainly includes the equivalence of language forms and meanings, is one of an important theories of cultural turn. After detailed analysis of the translation examples regarding chapter headings and people names collected from this book, we come to conclusion that absolute functional equivalence is almost impossible to be realized. Translators must adjust their translation strategies to achieve maximum equivalence and make their translation more readable.
