A Study on English Vocabulary Learning Strategies from the Perspective of Etymology_英语论文

摘要

正如我们所知,英语词汇学习与阅读、写作、听力等其他方面是互相关联的,由此可见词汇学习的重要性。在本篇论文中,作者试着从词源的角度探讨英语词汇学习的策略。由于词汇作为语言的一部分,此外学习通常被人们看做大脑的认知发展过程,因此认知语言学也被做为本篇论文的理论基础,其中的百科观、联想观、整合观会被用于词汇学习策略的分析。在本文中词汇学习策略主要包括:形成词汇的百科知识观,使用词汇之间的联想和激活,整合词义。同时,在实际的词汇学习中要注意结合不同的学习策略,不用刻意去区分不同单词的学习策略。本文在为学习者提出一些可行的学习策略之外,同时希望能加深学习者的词汇知识以及他们对于西方历史文化的熟悉程度。

Abstract

As is known to all, English vocabulary learning interacts with other aspects of English learning, including reading, writing, listening, etc. So, the importance of vocabulary learning is obvious. In this paper, the author tries to probe into the vocabulary learning strategies from the perspective of etymology. Vocabulary is part of language and many people usually regard learning as a cognitive development of human mind. Therefore, Cognitive Linguistics is the theoretical basis in this paper as well. The Encyclopaedia View, the Association View, and the Integration View are used in the study of vocabulary learning strategies. So, here etymology is based on Cognitive linguistics. The strategies mainly contain: having an encyclopaedia knowledge of words, being awareness of the association and activation between words, and the integration of word meanings. Also, a combination of different strategies is practical in authentic learning procedures. When we are learning vocabulary, there is no need for us to make a clear distinction between different words. Apart from providing English learners with some available learning strategies, there is a hope to enhance learners’ vocabulary knowledge and their familiarity of western culture and history.
