试论钱钟书的翻译思想在《理智与情感》孙致礼译版中的应用

On the Application of Qian Zhongshu’s Translation Thoughts in Sun Zhili’s Version of Sense and Sensibility

摘要

翻译是国与国之间跨文化交流的重要纽带，而译者作为翻译工作的主要参与者，其所译内容影响着读者对于原文的理解。古今中外有许多翻译家，他们把自己对翻译的理解加以总结和概括，形成自己的风格和理论，如道安的“五失本三不易”、玄奘的“五不翻”、奥古斯丁的“译者受上帝感召”说和哲罗姆的“意译而非直译”等。钱钟书是享誉国内外的大学者，在翻译理论方面也有独到的见解。他虽未译过整本著作，但其翻译思想都在其作品中零零碎碎体现。孙致礼作为钱钟书翻译思想的推崇者之一，在其译作中也将钱钟书的翻译思想体现的淋漓尽致，其中一个代表作品就是翻译简·奥斯丁的《理智与情感》。本文首先介绍钱钟书先生的翻译思想并将其归为三类，分别为钱钟书的“信达雅”思想、至纯至臻的“化境论”和翻译中的“破体”思想，从它的起源、发展和表现方式方面进行简单阐释；其次，在分析《理智与情感》译本的过程中，通过描述分析以及将孙致礼的译本同其他版本进行对比的方法对钱的思想在《理智与情感》孙致礼译版中的具体应用加以阐释，旨在让更多人对钱钟书以及他的翻译思想有更深的理解，同时对如何使用其翻译思想进行翻译实践有个更好的认知。

ABSTRACT

Translation is an important link between cross-cultural exchanges between countries, and translators serve as major participants in translation work, which affects the readers’ understanding of the original texts. There are many famous translators at home and abroad who have summarized their understanding of translation to form their own unique styles or theories, such as Daoan’s translation thought of “five losses of source texts and three difficulties of translation”, Tang Xuanzang’s “five categories of untranslated terms”, St ·Augustine’s theory that “the translator is inspired by God” and St ·Jerome’s “free translation rather than literal translation” and so on. Qian Zhongshu was a world-famous scholar, who had unique views in the matter of translation theory. He had not translated any whole book. However, his translation thoughts were scattered in his works. Sun Zhili, one of the proponents of Qian Zhongshu’s translation thoughts, also fully expresses Qian’s translation thoughts in his translations including his representative translation work Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility. Firstly, this paper focuses on Qian Zhongshu’s translation thoughts and divides them into three parts: the understanding of “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance”, “sublimation theory’s perfectness and purity” and “style-breaking in translation” to briefly introduce their origin, development and manifestation form. Secondly, based on the collected materials, the paper elucidates the specific application of Qian’s translation thoughts by describing and analyzing Sun Zhili’s version of Sense and Sensibility and making a brief comparison between his version and others’, aiming to enable more people not only to have a deeper understanding of Qian Zhongshu and his translation thoughts but also to learn how to apply his translation thoughts in their translation practice.
