Impact of Online Translation Tools＂Google Translate＂on English Translation Learning and the Counter-measure

摘要

随着全球化进程的不断加快，大量的外语信息涌入我们的学习，生活和工作。21世纪以来，电子信息化以及互联网时代的到来，让在线翻译得到空前发展和广泛使用，从而为翻译学习开辟了一条更为便捷的道路。然而，使用在线翻译工具进行翻译，却出现了大量误译、错译的现象，翻译质量面临挑战。本文主要研究在线翻译工具在翻译过程中存在的不足并提出相应的应对措施，以期对英语翻译学习者予以一定启示和帮助。

本文核心部分由四部分组成：第一部分简要回顾了在线翻译的含义、发展历程，并选取当下最受欢迎的三大在线翻译工具进行对比，通过对比发现谷歌翻译最具优势，故选取谷歌翻译作为本次研究的对象；第二部分重点围绕词汇和语法两大线索，以谷歌在线翻译工具为参考，分析在线翻译工具的常见错误；第三部分着重分析出现这些常见翻译错误的原因：中英文分属不同的语言体系、中英思维模式的差异，以及计算机技术自身的技术壁垒；第四部分对翻译学习者未来的翻译学习之路提出建议：人机翻译结合，语言学研究同计算机研究相结合以及译前编辑和译后编辑相结合。

通过上述四个部分的介绍，希望对英语翻译学习者未来的翻译学习提供一定的帮助，在现有技术条件下更好地为翻译工作提供服务。

Abstract

With the acceleration of globalization, a large amount of foreign language information floods into our life. Since the 21st century, the arrival of electronic information and the Internet era has made online translation unprecedentedly developed and widely used, thus opening up a more convenient way for translation learning. However, there are still lots of mistranslations, and the quality of translation is facing challenges. This paper mainly introduce the limitation of online translation in translation process and come up with some counter-measures, hoping to provide some help to translation learners and provide better service for translation work under the existing technical conditions.

This paper consists of four parts. The first part makes a brief introduction of online translation, development history, and compares the three most popular online translation tools. By comparison, Google translation has the most advantages Therefore, Google translation was selected as the object of this study. The second part mainly focuses on two major clues: vocabulary and grammar, using Google online translation as a reference to analyze common mistakes in online translation tools. The third part analyzes the reasons for common translation errors from three aspects: Chinese and English belong to different language systems, differences between Chinese and English thinking modes and the technical barriers of computer technology. The last part mainly puts forward suggestions for translation learners: man and machine translation combination, linguistic research and computer research combination, pre-editing and post-editing combination.
