英语专业高年级学生词汇学习策略与词汇深度研究_英语论文

A Study on the Depth of Vocabulary Knowledge and Vocabulary Learning Strategies of Senior English Majors 

摘要

英语专业大四学生在英语学习策略方面已经有了比较清晰的体现,因此本文研究主要是建立在Richards和Nation对第二语言知识体系描述以及O’Malley和Chamot的学习策略框架的基础上,对30名英语专业大四学生的英语词汇深度和英语词汇方面的学习策略状况进行调查。

最终数据显示参与测试的30名高年级的英语学习者的词汇的深度习得(反义词,近义词,搭配)仅接近总分(100分)的50%,好的学习者与差的学习者差距大。参与问卷调查的高年级英语学习者应用词汇学习策略的意识较强,其中最经常使用的词汇学习策略是选择性注意策略,紧接着是记忆策略以及社会活动策略,而自我计划策略和记笔记策略使用率则较低。接近一半的词汇学习策略并未显示出与词汇深度掌握有强烈的相关性。在本研究最后为英语学习者提出了使用多元化学习策略提高英语词汇深度的学习效率的建议。

Abstract

This paper studies the correlation between the depth of vocabulary knowledge and the application of vocabulary learning strategies of the seniors from English major based on Richards & Nation’s dimension of depth of vocabulary and O’Malley & Chamot’s classification of learning strategies. The investigation includes a test on the depth of vocabulary knowledge of 20 high-frequency words involves their synonym, antonym and collocation, and a questionnaire of vocabulary learning strategies. The subjects are 30 senior students of English major. In this study, SPSS is used to analyze the correlation of the information collected from the depth of vocabulary knowledge test and the questionnaire. 

The final statistics show that the participants have acquired half knowledge on average. There is a large gap between the good learners and poor learners among these 30 subjectives. Most of the participants have the consciousness to use various vocabulary learning strategies and the most frequent use of strategies in the process of learning English vocabulary is selective attention, then comes the memorization and social activity while the least frequent use of self-planning and note taking. Half of the strategies have no significant correlation with vocabulary learning. It is suggested that English learners learning a word is not just be familiar with the word but to know the word.
