中西方文化中动物象征意义的比较_英语论文

The Comparison of Animal Symbolic Meanings Between Chinese and Western Cultures 

摘要

动物和人类长久以来一直保持着密切的关系，并对人类的生存与发展有着显著的作用。随着人类文明的发展，人类根据独特的宗教文化，传统以及神话赋予了动物许多特殊意义。本文通过文献分析法，分析、整理前人的书籍与资料并得出结论。文章主要从四个方面进行分析：在英语中带有褒义但在汉语中带有贬义的动物形象，在汉语中带有褒义但在英语中带有贬义的动物形象，在英语和汉语中意思相近的动物形象，在汉语中有意义但英语中无意义的动物形象。目的在于分析中西方文化中动物词汇象征意义的异同，并且分析造成这种现象的可能因素。

Abstract

The animals maintain close contact with human beings, and have significant influence on human being’s living and development. With the development of human civilization, people endow animals with many particular meanings which are related to the unique religious cultures, traditions and myths. The studies based on secondary sources, most of the data comes from researchers’ books and articles. And the paper comes to the conclusion by collecting and analyzing the data. It collects the data from four aspects: the animal images that have commendatory meanings in English but derogatory meanings in Chinese, the animal images that have commendatory meanings in Chinese but derogatory in English, the animal images that have similar symbolic meanings in both Chinese and English, and the animal images that are meaningful in Chinese but meaningless in English. The purpose of this paper is to analyses the similarities and differences of animal symbolic meanings between Chinese and western cultures and probes into the factors that give theses animals a special symbolic meaning.
