摘要

《嘉莉妹妹》是西奥多·德莱赛的第一部小说，它见证了美国工业化时期人们的生活方式、思想方式尤其是女性的思想的巨大变化。而嘉莉正好是这个时期受压迫女性的代表人物。根据马克思女性主义的观点，资本主义制度和父权意识形态造成了对女性的压迫，其中根源是私有制，关键是经济因素，唯有回到公共的工作中赢得经济独立才能解放女性。这本小说向我们生动地讲述了嘉莉从一个贫穷、毫无经验的女生变身为百老汇上著名演员的故事，正好体现了作品中马克思女性主义思想。所以本文从马克思女性主义的观点来分析嘉莉妹妹的成长历程，从而说明嘉莉妹妹不是一个单纯的物质追求者，她也拥有自己事业上和思

想上的追求，突破重重困难最终成长为一名新女性。

Abstract

Sister Carrie is the first novel of Theodore Dreiser which witnesses the great change of American at that age of Industrialization. At that time people’s life style as well as their ways of thoughts, especially female thoughts, has changed a lot. And Carrie is the representative character in that period who is the woman under oppression. According to the view of Marxism feminism, the issue of women under oppression is from the capitalism system and patriarchy. The root is private ownership and the key is economic fact, only back to work and get the economic independence can women realize themselves. This novel tells us how Carrie, a poor and inexperienced girl, becomes a famous actress in Broadway vividly. Exactly it shows the ideology of Marxism feminism. So in this thesis the author will analyze the growth of Carrie from the view of Marxist feminism, thereby explaining that Carrie is not a pure material pursuer also she owns her career and mind pursuit, finally overcoming all the difficulties she becomes a new woman.
