The Hero Images in George Orwell’s Anti-utopian Novel 1984

摘要

乔治﹒奥威尔的《1984》是一部经典的反乌托邦小说。本文通过文本细读，首先探讨小说中政治制度“完美”的集权国家 ——“大洋国”的政权结构和运作方式；再通过具体人物及故事情节分析，体现集权社会对人性的压制及主人公在反抗集权时体现的人文主义精神；最后，通过主人公的悲剧结局表达作者反乌托邦的主旨。

Abstract

George Orwell’s 1984 is a famous anti¬-utopia novel. Based on close reading, this thesis analyzes the political structure and operating model of a totalitarian country called Oceania, in which there were advanced science and technology and “perfect” political system. The second part of this thesis analyzes the heroic images with the plot related to them in details, expresses the suppression of humanity in dictatorship, and shows the heroes’ humanism spirits while they fight against this regime. Finally, this thesis points out that the author’s anti-utopia theme is illustrated by the heroes’ tragic endings.
