库切《等待野蛮人》的后殖民主义解读_英语论文

A Postcolonial Reading of Coetzee’s Waiting for the Barbarians

摘要

J.M.库切是当代世界文坛上极具影响力的重要作家，曾两度荣获布克奖，2003年摘得诺贝尔文学奖。1980年发表的《等待野蛮人》是库切的第三部小说，也是第一部为库切赢来国际声誉的作品。从后殖民视角解读这部经典的寓言式作品，结合库切的特殊文化身份，不难看出库切在《等待野蛮人》中流露的反殖民思想和帝国迷思。在仍有局部战争的当今世界，《等待野蛮人》中蕴含的思想，为唤醒人们对生命的尊重和人性的反思提供了线索。

Abstract

J.M.Coetzee is one of the most important and influential writers in the world. After receiving the Booker Price twice, Coetzee was awarded the 2003 Nobel Price in Literature. Waiting for the Barbarians is Coetzee’s third novel, which was published in 1980, and it’s also the first novel to have won the international reputation for Coetzee. By reading Waiting for the Barbarians from the perspective of postcolonialism, and considering the writer’s special cultural identity, it’s not difficult to discern his anti-colonial thoughts and confusion about empires. In view of the current world situation, there are still local wars in the world. The thoughts implied in Waiting for the Barbarians are a hint for awakening our respect for life and rethinking about human nature.
