A Comparative Study on Chinese Temple and Western Church

摘要

建筑是艺术世界中必不可少的一员，它除了具有实用价值，也有巨大的的社会文化价值。随着国际旅游业的高速发展以及国际文化交流的日益频繁，越来越多的人开始关注中西方建筑在许多方面的不同。就宗教建筑而言，最具代表性的就是寺庙与教堂。寺庙在中国建筑领域具有很高的地位，因为其体现了宗教的兴衰，同时也记载了佛教文化的的发展过程，是有着重要艺术价值与文化价值的建筑。在西方，宗教建筑同样享有崇高地位，是游客们的必选之地，尤其是一些著名的教堂，它们是欧洲艺术、文化与历史的缩影，见证了西方各国的变迁。中国寺庙与西方教堂在空间结构与文化价值上都有很多不同, 两者间的对比本质上就是其深层文化的对比。本文通过对中国寺庙与西方教堂从物质与文化方面的研究分析与对比，揭示出中西方的文化共性、差异及原因，真正能领悟与欣赏民族文化的蕴意。

Abstract 

Architecture is one of the most essential members in the world of art, which is not only full of functional values, but stronger social cultural values. With the rapid development of international tourism and the frequency of cultural exchange, more and more people come to know that Chinese and Western architectures are distinct from each other in many aspects. Of religious architectures, the temple and the church are the most representative ones. In China, temple plays an important role in the field of architecture, because it reflects not only the up and downs of the religion but the development of the culture of Buddhism with the important artistic value and the cultural value. In the Western world, religious architectures also enjoy great reputation and are the essential choice of tourists, especially some famous churches, which are the epitome of European art, culture and history and witness the vicissitude of Western countries. The Chinese temple and the Western church are very different, whether in the image and space or in the culture value and the comparison of them is essentially the comparison of their deep culture. This paper aims to analyze and compare the Chinese temple and Western church through the material and cultural aspect, so as to reveal Chinese and Western cultural universality, difference and reason and to make people truly comprehend and appreciate the profound meaning of national culture.
