Cultural Connotation and Translation of Chinese and English Animal Words

摘要

语言是文化的重要组成部分，体现和反映文化，是文化的载体，与文化有着共同的属性。由于各自民族价值观相左、思维方式和生活方式不同以及感情表达之差异，因而不同文化背景下的相同概念有着不同的文化内涵，中英动物词汇也不例外。每个动物词汇在发展演变的过程中，因其所承载的文化有所差异，形成其特定的文化内涵。随着社会的发展，人类生活水平逐步提高，动物也日益成为人们生活的一个重要部分，其所蕴含的文化内涵也和人们息息相关，因此，在对动物词汇进行翻译时就要注意其背后所代表的特殊意义，思考应该如何做到准确而又生动地用目的语表达出来。此外，在全球化发展的今天，研究动物词汇的文化内涵和翻译对消除文化误解有着重要意义。本文以文化语言学、翻译学等相关理论为依据，对动物词汇所蕴含的文化内涵进行探究，旨在得出对英汉动物词汇的文化内涵及翻译的借鉴和启示作用，并对相关领域的未来研究加以预测跟展望。

Abstract

As the carrier of culture, language is an important part of the culture. It embodies and reflects culture and share many common characteristics with culture. The same conception in different cultural backgrounds may have different cultural connotation since different national value, different lifestyles and different ways of thinking and expression, let alone the animal words of both Chinese and English. Because of the different cultures the animal words carried during the evolution of such words, the different cultural connotation has been formed. With the development of the society, people’s livelihood has improved gradually. The animals have increasingly become an important part of human being’s daily life, and the cultural connotation they carries is closely related to people. Therefore, the special meaning behind should be paid attention to when translating. What should be taken into consideration is how to translate the expressions vividly in the target language. In addition, it is significant to look into the cultural connotation of animal words in order to eliminate the cultural misunderstanding. Based on the theories in culture linguistics and translation, this paper looks into the animal words with cultural connotation. The paper aims at pointing out the enlightenment it will give to the translation of animal words so that the translation strategies can be studied out. And then naturally comes to its conclusion.
