On the Subtitle Translation of English Movies and TV Series From the Perspective of Reception Aesthetics In the Era of Entertainment

摘要

近年来,网络大背景下泛娱乐化倾向不断延伸和渗透,欧美影视作品字幕翻译也呈娱乐化趋势。字幕翻译运用了大量网络流行语、古诗词等本土化语言,来迎合国内预期观众的喜好。本研究旨在从接受美学视角出发,探讨观众对影视字幕娱乐化改写这一现象的接受程度,探究译者在运用接受美学理论进行本土化翻译时所应注意的问题。相关数据表明中国影迷平均年龄21.8,本研究采用随机抽样的方法,选取2012-2016年部分热门影片进行案例分析,以大学生群体为主要调查对象,随机调查了70名男生、59名女生。调查分为整体印象调查、翻译偏好度调查和翻译接受度调查三部分。结果表明,观众对不同类型的娱乐化翻译的接受程度不同,对古诗词、谚语俗语等本土化翻译接受程度较高,时下网络新词或融入生活的常见用词次之,广告语接受度一般,不接受译者无厘头娱乐化翻译。因此,译者在翻译时,应考虑观众的接受能力,尽可能使翻译文本与观众的期待视野相融合,结合语境选择适当的本土化语言,不宜过度娱乐化。

Abstract

In recent years, under the background of pan-entertainment, there is a growing tendency of subtitle translation towards entertainment, by using more and more network buzzwords and Chinese classic poetry, ect. to cater for the expected audience in China. This paper aims to investigate the audience’s attitude toward such entertainment-oriented translation phenomenon from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics, in order to figure out what translators need to pay attention to when translating by that method. According to related reports, the average age of Chinese film audience is 21.8. This paper adopts random sampling and questionnaire survey method, selects some hot films and TV Series from 2012 to 2016 as case studies, and takes the college students (post-90s) as the main research object, including 70 males and 59 females, to investigate their general attitude, preference and reception level toward such translation. The findings suggest that the audience have different tolerances towards different types of entertainment-oriented translation, so when translating, translators need to take the audience’s tolerance and original context into consideration, and make them enter the context within their horizon of expectations, instead of pouring too much entertainment.
