摘要

英国当代著名作家朱利安·巴恩斯凭借小说《终结的感觉》（The Sense of an Ending)获得了 2011 年布克文学奖。巴恩斯的作品向来以对人类记忆与历史的探寻为基点，《终结的感觉》同样也是这样的一部作品，小说通过对叙事者托尼两次回忆性叙述的描写，在他对过往的追忆中完成了对心灵的叩问和对生命的认识，具有深刻的人文主义关怀。精湛的叙事技巧是《终结的感觉》的一大亮点，所以本论文以叙事为重点与切入点，试图从后现代叙事、历史叙事两个方面，对小说的叙事特点进行分析论述。 首先本论文提出了后现代叙事的突出特点，并分析了这些特点在小说中的具体体现，提出这些特点对于文本分析的重要意义；其次对小说中鲜明的历史叙事进行了深入的探讨，尤其是历史叙事对文本构建功能，以及虚构部分的处理这两大部分。在这个章节中，还将对历史叙事这两大特点的原因及对小说文本的意义进行进一步的解释。

《终结的感觉》独特的叙事方式使其具有创新性的意义，巴恩斯通过叙事者托尼的视角不仅让我们重新认识了关于历史的意义，还让我们重新审视了自我。生命的有限，并不能阻止我们对其意义孜孜不倦的探寻。

Abstract

Julian Barnes, a famous contemporary British writer, won the 2011 Man Booker Prize with The Sense of an Ending. The works of Julian Barnes always focus on reminiscence and history, The Sense of an Ending is no exception. The novel is composed of two reminiscent narratives of the narrator Tony. By recalling the past, he had achieved the soul inquiry and the life understanding, which is full of humanistic care. Exquisite narrative skill is one of the bright spots of The Sense of an Ending. By analyzing this novel from two aspects: postmodernist narrative and the historical narrative, I attempted to explore narrative skills of this novel. Firstly, this paper presents the salient features of postmodernist narrative and analyzes the detail reflection of these characteristics in this novel, by pointing out these features are vital to text analysis; secondly, the paper discusses the historical narrative of this novel, analyzes the construction features of the historical narrative as well as its fictionality part. Then explain the reasons and significance of these two features.

The unique way of narrative and reminiscence make The Sense of an Ending an exceptional innovative. Through the perspective of the narrator Tony, people re-acquire themselves with history, and re-examine their self-awareness. Life is limited, but its meaning continues and will never come to an end.
