浅析《圣经》对《简·爱》的影响_英语论文

The Biblical Influence on Jane Eyre

摘要

十九世纪英国女作家夏洛蒂·勃朗特的代表作 《简·爱》，描写了女主人公简爱在各种磨难中坚持自我，追求自由，最终获得幸福的故事。其中体现出的有关《圣经》的语典、事典等影响不胜枚举。本文通过对比研究着重浅析了《简·爱》中的“原罪与救赎”、“宽容与博爱”这两个圣经主题，接着分析了“简爱”和“海伦”两个人物在《圣经》中的原型。最后得出结论，《简·爱》深受《圣经》影响，要透彻理解该作品，须将二者进行对比研究。

Abstract  

Jane Eyre, a masterpiece of the female writer Charlotte Brontë who lived in the 19th century, narrates a story of the heroine Jane Eyre finally attained her happiness after going through various tribulations due to her persistence to her own ideal and pursuit of liberty. Many biblical elements such as allusions can be found in this book. Therefore, this paper will, by conducting a comparative study, make a brief analysis on the biblical themes of “original sin and redemption” and “forgiveness and fraternity”, and then study the biblical prototypes of two roles in Jane Eyre—the heroine Jane Eyre and the minor role Helen. Finally, this paper concludes that the Bible has exerted great influence on Jane Eyre. To fully understand this volume, one needs to conduct a comparative study about its biblical influence.
