The Application of Non-verbal Communication in English Class of Junior High School

摘要

人与人的交际方式可以分为两大类,即语言交流和非语言交流。人类交际方式的重要组成部分之一是非语言交流,但其长期以来并未得到适当的关注。在交际过程中,人们通常只把注意力放在语言交流,认为其是传递信息的唯一途径,因此忽略了非语言交流对信息的传递功能。但是,我们必须认识到非语言交流是整个交际过程中不可缺少的组成部分,同时也是外语教学的一个重要组成部分。而对于非语言交流在英语课堂中的运用这一方面,目前国内相关的研究还比较少,研究成果远远落后于一些西方国家。本篇论文主要讨论非语言交流在英语课堂中的应用情况,分为五个部分:第一部分对非语言交流做了一个系统介绍;第二部分介绍了关于非语言交流的国内外研究并进行对比;第三部分对非语言交流做了概述,包括其功能和分类及重要性;第四部分为重点章节,主要介绍了非语言交流在英语课堂中的运用,包括肢体语言,副语言,客体语和环境语在课堂中的应用,并举了相应例子予以说明;第五部分对本篇论文进行了总结。笔者希望通过本篇文章引起更多学者和一线英语老师对英语课堂教学中非语言交流应用的重视,并能借助非语言交流达到更好的教学效果。

Abstract

People usually communicate with others in two ways, namely, verbal communication and nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication is an important part of human communication, while it hasn’t got proper attention for a long time. People often pay attention to verbal communication when they have communication with others, because they think verbal communication is the only way for people to express themselves. Thus, most people ignore that nonverbal communication also can deliver messages for them. However, we must recognize that nonverbal communication is an important part in communication and English teaching. In China, the research on the application of nonverbal communication in English class teaching is less than that in western countries. The research results in China also fall behind when comparing with some western countries. The thesis which is divided into five parts mainly talks about the application of nonverbal communication in English class teaching. The first part is the general introduction; the second part introduces some situations about the research of nonverbal communication domestic and overseas and makes comparison between them; the third part provides an overview of nonverbal communication, including its functions, classification and importance; the fourth part, which is the important part of the thesis, mainly discuss the application of nonverbal communication in English class teaching, including body language, paralanguage, object language and environmental language, and the author also talks about the characteristics of the students in junior middle school; the last part gives the conclusion of the paper. The author hopes to attract more scholars and English teachers’ attention to the application of nonverbal communication in English class teaching and hopes more English teachers can get better teaching effects by using nonverbal communication effectively.
