C-E Translation of Red Tourism Texts from the Perspective of Functional Translation Theory

Abstract

Due to its long history and fabulous culture, China has a lot of famous places of historic interest, beautiful sceneries, colorful ethnic customs and potential tourist resources. Red tourism with Chinese characteristics has attracted more and more overseas tourists. The flourishing development of red tourism has demanded better translation of red tourism texts so that tourists from foreign countries have access to the precise information. However, the quality of the translation of red tourism texts in China is far from satisfactory. Therefore, there is an urgent need for us to further study the translation of red tourism texts, so as to arouse the attention of the translator and provide resolutions to them.

The first part of this thesis introduces the theory of functional translation, including Skopos theory and Newmark’s text typology; the second part analyzes the origin, characteristics, classification and functions of the red tourism text; the third part mainly discusses the application of functional translation theory in the translation of the red tourism text; the fourth part analyzes some concrete cases of red tourism texts from the perspective of functional translation theory. Through analysis, this thesis made some suggestions on the strategies and methods to be adopted in the translation process.
