摘要

戴维·赫伯特·劳伦斯，是20世纪英语文学中最重要的人物之一，亦是最具争议性的作家之一。《木马赢家》创作于20世纪20年代，是英国现代工业文明下的产物。高度发达的工业文明在满足人们的物质需求的同时，也扭曲和摧残了人们的精神和情感，最终造成人性的悲剧。劳伦斯通过小说人物过度追求金钱的故事，无情地批判了当时的社会中，人们视金钱为至高无上，最终极度扭曲和异化了包括亲情在内的人际关系，破坏了自然生态的和谐。

象征手法是劳伦斯小说创作中表达审美意象和深化主题的有效方式。劳伦斯在《木马赢家》中采取象征的手法来反映真实的社会问题，展露了深刻的社会现实。通过深入分析小说中拜金主义的象征意义，揭示《木马赢家》中作者的用意不仅仅是为了表达内心的层次，而是深入到当时的社会问题中，批判追求金钱的功利价值观，批判社会中扭曲的人性。从而揭露最终的赢家在拜金主义的社会里一无所有的批判性哲学思想，引起当代社会中人们对于金钱的重新认识和理解，明白物质追求和精神追求的真正价值意义。

Abstract

D. H. Lawrence is one of the greatest and most controversial writers in the English literature in the twentieth century. The Rocking Horse Winner is written in the 1920s as the fruit of the British industrial civilization. The highly-developed industrial civilization not only satisfies people’s material requirement, but also distorts and damages the mood and spirit of human beings, finally leading to the tragedy of humanity. By means of describing the characters who excessively pursue money, Lawrence strongly criticizes the people who put the money in the paramount position finally distort and alien the human relationships including the kinship and the harmony of nature in that society. 

The symbolism is an effective means to express the aesthetic value and deepen the theme in his novels. The Rocking Horse Winner adopts the symbolism to profoundly reflect the true social problems and social reality. To deeply analyze the symbolic meaning of money worship, it can be reflected by Lawrence’s theme in The Rocking Horse Winner. The theme not only expresses the psychological aspects, but also involves the social problems in order to criticize the utilitarianism of pursuing money and the twisted human nature of capitalist society. The short story reflects the philosophical theory that the final winners get nothing in the society where worships money. The study of The Rocking Horse Winner appeals to people for knowing and understanding the true meaning of pursuing money, materialism and spiritualism.
