摘  要

随着中国与外国之间的交流不断发展,良好的英文翻译迫在眉睫。特别对于中国美食而言,为了让外国友人在品尝独一无二的中国菜的时候能够了解中国菜的烹调艺术和文化内涵,生动形象并且准确地翻译中国菜是十分重要的。在我大学期间,在和外国朋友吃饭的时候,我发现中国菜的英语翻译中存在许多问题,究其原因各种各样。但是中国菜的翻译问题存在的最重要的原因可能是文化差异。为了能够让翻译变得通俗易懂,翻译者需要用恰当的翻译方法。因此,为了适应多元文化社会的发展和加强跨文化交流,中国饮食的英译就显得尤为重要。本文阐述了两种主要的翻译原则和三种实用的翻译方法,目的在于提高中餐菜单翻译的有效性及提高译者的英语翻译能力。

Abstract

With the improvement of communications between China and foreign countries, the accuracy of translation from Chinese to English is in urgent need. As for Chinese food, in order to make foreign friends understand the art and cultural connotations of the names of dishes while tasting the unique flavor of Chinese dishes, translating the names of Chinese food vividly and accurately is very important. When I have dinner with foreigners in my university, I find there are many errors in the existing English translation which may come from a variety of reasons. But the most important reason may remain in the different dietary habits or dietary culture and what’s more, to make the translation more clearly, the translator needs to use the proper approaches when translating. Good translation of Chinese dishes into English is very helpful to the promotion of the multi-cultural globe and cross-cultural communication. This essay discusses two principles of translation and three kinds of practical approaches of translation in Chinese menu translation with an aim to improve translation efficiency and promote the ability of the translator.

1    Introduction
This paper mainly concentrates on the translation of Chinese menu, introducing the art of Chinese cuisine, three kinds of approaches of translation and the cultural connotations about Chinese dishes. With the increasing international exchanges between China and foreign countries, more and more people take delight in making trips to China and acquaint themselves with the profound Chinese culture. They are attracted by Chinese culture, especially by Chinese food. However, Chinese food industry has been facing many problems like other industries on the way opening to the world. Towards this, different people hold different opinions. Some of them think the most important thing to be solved is Chinese food health problem while others put Chinese menu translation in the first place.
