摘要

随着中国改革开放的进一步扩大，中国与世界其他国家， 特别是英语国家的交流日益频繁。随之而来的是大批优秀的英语影片进入中国电影市场。如何把这些影片引进进来， 促进中西文化的交流，极其重要。而翻译在其中扮演者重要的角色。因此，影视翻译研究， 作为实用翻译研究的一个重要分支，应运而生。一般来说，翻译电影片名，首先首先必须分析其本身的特点和功能。电影片名最基本的功能就是其信息功能和美感功能。此外，修辞手法的使用会使得电影情节，人物和情感更加生动。本文从电影片名的特点和功能入手，提出了英语电影片名汉译的指导原则,分析了翻译的方法策略,指出英语电影片名的汉译应以实现片名的功能为原则,灵活运用各种方法。

Abstract

With the further development of China’s reform and opening-up, communication between China and the rest of the world, especially with the English-speaking countries, many English movies swarmed into China’s movie market. Needless to say, translation is supposed to play a key role in the introduction of these movies, which has consequently given rise to the study of their translation. In general, When translating a movie title, an analysis of its features and functions should be done at first. The basic functions of a movie title lie in its informative and aesthetic functions. In addition, the English film titles use the rhetorical devices to make the movie plot, characters and mood more vivid. This paper analyzes the cultural differences reflected in English and Chinese movie titles, puts forward the principles guiding English movie title translation and proposes main translation methods in English movie title translation. And this paper intends to argue that English movie title translation should be under the basic principle of fulfilling movie titles’specific functions through the application of proper translation methods.

1 Introduction

Movie title, supplies the most important information of a movie to the audience. It can grip the attention of the audience when they first see it and stimulate their interest. Besides, as movie has commercial value, movie title is key to the success in box office, which means not only wide-spread fame and recognition, but most importantly, huge fortune for the filmmaker.
