摘要

奥尔罕•帕慕克被认为是当代欧洲最核心的三位文学家之一,是享誉国际的土耳其文坛巨擘。于2005年荣获得德国书业和平奖,并被提名诺贝尔文学奖。他的作品已被译成50多种语言出版,并售出700完册。2006年奥尔罕•帕穆克获得2006年度诺贝尔文学奖。《我的名字叫红》被广泛认为是帕慕克最好的小说。
本论文的目的在于研究《我的名字叫红》这部土耳其小说中的土耳其文化,尤其是其中的细密画的历史背景和文化内涵。以及探讨后冷战时代背景下,阿拉伯文化与西方文化的冲突与愿景。本论文将探讨汉语和英语在土耳其文学翻译方面的各自特点。本论文的着重点是讨论汉语和英语如何在翻译时既照顾其译文语言的自身特点,同时又尽量保持原著语言的风味。最后,我想讨论一下中英译本的两个作者,以及研究他们的寻找自己风格的过程。

Abstract

Orhan Pamuk is regarded as one of the three core writers of modern Europe, and he is known as a world-famous Turkish literature master. In 2005, he is the recipient of the Germany book industry peace reward, and was nominated by Nobel Prize in Literature. His work has sold over seven million books in more than fifty languages. In 2006, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature. My Name is Red is widely recognized as Pamuk’s best novel.
The aim of the thesis is to research the Turkish culture in this novel, especially the historical background and cultural meaning of miniature. And try to discuss the clash of cultures in the post-cold war time and its future. Then I will compare the Chinese and English version of My Name is Red to find out their specialty. The emphasis of the thesis is to discuss how to translate when considering the character of translation language, while keeping its original taste. At last, I want to discuss the translators of both Chinese and English versions, and study the process of finding their own style.

1  Introduction
Ferit Orhan Pamuk (born 7 June 1952), generally known simply as Orhan Pamuk, is a Turkish novelist. One of Turkey's most prominent novelists, his work has sold over seven million books in more than fifty languages, making him the country's best-selling writer. Pamuk is the recipient of numerous literary awards, including the Nobel Prize in Literature 2006, the first Nobel Prize to be awarded to a Turkish citizen.
My Name Is Red is written by Orhan Pamuk in 1998. The English translation won the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 2003, The French version won the French Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger and the Italian version the Premio Grinzane Cavour in 2002. The novel and its English translation established Pamuk's international reputation and contributed to his winning of the Nobel Prize. In recognition of its exceptional status in Pamuk's oeuvre, the novel will be re-published in Erdağ Göknar's translation as part of the Everyman's Library Contemporary Classics series in 2010. The influences of authors Joyce, Kafka, Mann, Nabokov and Rushdie can be seen in Pamuk's work.
