Abstract:

With the deepening of globalization and China’s reform and opening up, international communication is becoming extremely frequent. People all over the world pay more and more attention to China’s earth-shaking changes in all fields. As we all know, language is the carrier of culture and words can reflect the development of culture.  Chinese culturally-loaded words can reveal China’s core values, long history and brilliant culture, so they are of great importance in external publicity. This paper is a survey of Chinese culturally-loaded words in C-E translation. It discusses the definition, characteristics and classification of Chinese culturally-loaded words, followed by the current situation of Chinese culturally-loaded words in C-E translation, including investigation of Chinese culturally-loaded words in American’s mainstream newspaper. Finally, it explores and analyzes several problems in the translation process.

随着全球化进程的深度发展和中国的改革开放，国际交流日益频繁，中国各个领域发生的翻天覆地的变化需要及时的被国际社会所了解，而语言是文化的载体，词汇反映文化的发展，因此中国特色词汇的英译能够表现中国核心价值、悠久历史以及灿烂文化等等，在对外宣传中有着极其重要的作用。本文首先讨论了中国特色词汇的定义，特征以及分类，然后调查了中国特色词汇的英译现状，分析了美国主流媒体对于中国特色词汇的翻译方法，最后指出中国特色词汇英译过程中存在的各种问题。

1. Introduction
After more than thirty years’ reform and opening up, China’s economy and the entire society has developed by leaps and bounds, and the comprehensive national power and its international influence have been enhanced remarkably. New things and new social phenomena with Chinese characteristics emerge one after another, and then vocabulary reflecting the development of China’s all aspects, such as economy, society and culture etc. spring up without end. According to such a social linguistic phenomenon, Chen Yuan pointed out that whenever new things appear in a society, new systems, new institutions, new measures, new thoughts, new materials, new concepts, new tools or new actions, in a word, they must be reflected in language in all possible ways. Otherwise they can’t play the role of communication in social life.
