摘要：

近年来,随着莫言摘取诺贝尔文学奖的桂冠，中国文学在海内外掀起一股热潮。这不仅得益于中国作家的杰出创作，更归功于一批优秀翻译家的高超造诣。作为把中国现当代文学作品介绍到西方的最具影响力的翻译家之一，葛浩文的译作在国际上屡获大奖。他在丰富的翻译实践中，形成了自己独特的译学见解。本论文旨在通过介绍葛浩文的生平，翻译实践及翻译成果，并结合其所翻译的中国文学作品实例，分析并总结其主要翻译思想，以期对翻译学习者提供借鉴。

Abstract:

In recent years, as Mo Yan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, Chinese literature has recently enjoyed a surge of popularity at home and abroad. It not only benefits from the outstanding creativity of Chinese writers, but also attributes to the successful translation of the translators. As one of the most influential translators who have introduced modern and contemporary Chinese literature to the western world, Howard Goldblatt often wins international prizes for his translation works. In the rich translation practice, he has formed unique translation thoughts. In this thesis, the author introduces Howard Goldblatt’s life stories, translation practice and achievements, then analyzes and summarizes his translation thoughts through selected examples from his translation works of Chinese literature, which will provide some references for translation learners.

1.1    Research background
In recent years, with the successful hosting of the Olympic Games and the World Expo, as well as the booming of Chinese economy in recent years, China’s influence on the whole world is on the rise. Many Chinese elements are becoming increasingly prevalent, among which, Chinese literature is a good example which has been well received in western countries.
The popularity of Chinese literature in the west should owe much to their excellent translators. Because of their outstanding translation, Chinese literature is harvesting extensive public recognition among foreign readers.
Among the most influential translators who have introduced modern and contemporary Chinese literature to the western world, Howard Goldblatt is the one who often wins international prizes for his translation works. Being very experienced in translation, Howard’s translation thoughts are worth studying.
