摘要：

随着互联网的普及应用，当今有不少中国知名大学都制作了英文官网,其中简介板块展现了高校的硬实力与软实力,在吸纳留学生,吸引外国学者、促进高校及相关机构学术交流方面起到非常重要的作用。本论文引入 “平行文本” 这一概念，选取知名美国大学简介的文本作为参照系,采用对比分析的方式，通过对实例的认真研究，归纳了中国大学简介英译中常见的翻译失误如语言性失误，文化性失误，语用性失误和文本特有的翻译失误。同时作者也剖析了其中的原因：译者对基本翻译工作的态度不认真，对网页的更新不够及时，对跨文化背景的忽视等因素。进一步根据平行文本和目的论等翻译理论作者总结了一些翻译策略。本论文旨在给翻译工作者一些启示，为提高中国知名大学简介的英译水平提供些许借鉴。

Abstract:

With the popularization of the internet, lots of well-known Chinese universities now have their own English versions of universities websites. Actually, English version of university profiles shows their universities' hard power and soft power. These profiles play an important role in attracting foreign students and scholars and developing academic exchange with foreign educational institutions. This research brings university profile texts which are a kind of practical texts into the paper. A contrastive analysis of the samples in the two languages is presented. It begins a detailed study on the common errors in the English versions of Chinese university profiles such as linguistic translation errors, cultural translation errors, pragmatic translation errors and text-specific translation errors and explores the causes and reasons of those errors like the carelessness of translators, the neglect of updating websites and lack of the foreigners’ culture. In addition, the author offers some translation strategies according to the parallel text, Skopos and other translation theories. The study is intended to give translators some ideas and to improve their translation quality of Chinese well-known university profiles into English.
