摘要

把中国文化特有事物翻译成英语,必然会出现英语中没有的词汇与表达,而对汉语文化词的翻译又直接关系到跨文化交际与民族文化传播能否顺利进行,所以探求文化词的汉英翻译意义深远。翻译汉英文化词时采用零翻译中常见的音译、音义兼译、直译加注等方法既可以宣传汉语,增强汉语在世界范围的影响力,又有利于中国文化的输出,还能丰富和发展英语词汇。

Abstract

To translate Chinese words with characteristics unique in its culture into English, inevitably it will appear a lot of words and expressions that do not have equivalence in English. But the translation of Chinese cultural words is directly related to whether cross-cultural communication and national culture dissemination can go smoothly, so it has a profound meaning to search translation strategies for cultural words in Chinese-English translation. Using common zero translation methods such as transliteration, sound-meaning combination translation, and literal translation with notes in translation process can not only publicize Chinese and enlarge the influence of Chinese language in the world, but also enhance the spread of Chinese culture, and what’s more, add new English vocabulary and enrich English.

1. Introduction
With the development of the society, and the increasingly frequent communication between various ethnic groups all over the world in the field of economy, culture, science and technology, translation has become an indispensable tool for communication in modern society. There’s a close connection between culture, language and translation: language is part of the culture, and is the carrier of culture; translation is the activity through which different languages communicate with each other, and enables different cultures to have impact and influence upon others.
1.1 Background information
.In view of the fact that different countries differ from each other in social background, political status, economy, cultural life and view of value, and their languages differ in grammar, meaning, and semantic expression, it’s not easy to make the translation in accordance with the principles of “faithful, fluent and elegant”. The difficulties posed by cultural differences for translators have long been recognized. Nida, for instance, reminds every translator that “For truly successful translation, biculturalism is even more important than bilingualism, since words only have meanings in terms of the culture in which they function.”
