摘  要

新英语课程标准指出小学阶段英语课程的目的是激发学生学习英语的兴趣。兴趣是掌握知识的老师,是学好语言的老师。但是,在调查中发现,在传统的英语教学课堂中,教师过多的注重学生的听,读,写方面的基本技能来完成自己的教学任务。游戏是小学英语教师和小学生都喜爱的教学活动,游戏教学是激发小学生英语学习兴趣的有效途径。该文旨在通过对游戏教学理论和实践的研究,阐明运用游戏教学能让孩子们乐于参与学习,领悟学习的喜悦,获得成功经验的满足。本文引用了心理学和教育学二语习得的相关经验理论和意义。作者采用了文献法、经验法、问卷调查法、访谈法进行了对游戏教学的效果分析。

Abstract

 The New English Curriculum Standards say that the aim of primary English teaching is to foster students’ interest in learning English. Interest is a teacher to gain knowledge and learn a foreign language. But the survey shows that in the traditional English class, the teacher has focused too much on the basic skills which are listening, reading and writing. The teachers just try their best to finish the teaching task. The thesis holds the hypothesis that through playing games, pupils take an active part in the games and lessons with great interest, enjoy the pleasure and happiness of the class and gain a sense of achievement. The thesis holds the hypothesis that game-teaching approach in primary school is not only feasible but also an ideal way of teaching English. From the theoretical perspective of psychology, pedagogy and second language acquisition the paper illustrates the significance of games in children’s English teaching. The author applies research methods such as classroom observation, interviews with the teachers and questionnaires to investigate the effectiveness of using games in the teaching process.  During class observation we find that games have entered primary school English classrooms and many pupils take active parts in games. Teachers apply games in English teaching. However, there are still some problems to be solved. Conclusions have been drawn in this thesis as follows: both teachers and students like games; games are playing an important part in primary English teaching particularly in the activation of pupils’ interest. Teachers should organize the games well and cooperate with other teaching approaches to solve English language teaching problems.

1 Introduction
1.1The background of this paper
With the rapid development of international trade and international communication, English has become one of the basic skills of people especially since 21st century. Besides, with the successful holding of 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, English learning has become more and more popular among all Chinese people. As Deng Xiaoping put it, education should start with children! Primary school English, as a compulsory course, has made itself into most of primary schools. What has worried us most is that pupils' interest in English is decreasing because of the English teaching model and with their English level goes up. All we need to do is dig out pupils' interest but not kill it gradually. We all know that primary school students like playing games, playing is the nature of children. This is a rare opportunity to collect the information and try to figure out how to cultivate pupils' interest in learning, motivate them to work hard and help them establish good learning habits.
