摘 要

语言和文化的关系之密切不言而喻,学习外语必须了解这门语言所承载的文化,了解相应的语言文化背景知识,丰富的文化背景知识会增强对该语言的理解和使用的功能。因此语言教学不应只是单纯的语言系统的教学,还应结合文化教学,英语教师在传授英语语言知识的同时,必须适度讲解语言文化背景知识,让学生了解不同文化的差异性,着力培养学生的跨文化意识。跨文化意识的培养能够加深对词汇的记忆、方便阅读理解、加强口语表达能力、提高听力技巧。因此,在英语课堂的教学中,教师可以从词汇教学、阅读理解、口语锻炼、语法教学几方面具体加强对学生跨文化意识的培养来提高学生的英语水平。

Abstract

Language and culture are interwovenness, and vitally interrelated. Learning a second language, trying to comprehend its culture should come first. Knowing well the profusion of cultural background can develop one’s own understanding of this language as well as cultivate his own ability to fully grasp the language. Teaching a foreign language is not only simply language teaching, but also should be combined with its culture. In class, teacher can explain some cultural background information to make the students distinguish it with our own culture. It is helpful to develop their cross-cultural awareness. Developing cross-cultural awareness can deepen the memory of vocabulary; making convenience for reading comprehension; enhancing the expression of oracy; improving listening skills.Therefore, teacher can develop cross-cultural awareness specifically from vocabulary teaching, reading instruction, spoken English teaching, grammar learning to improve students’ English.

1 Introduction
   With the rapid development of society, more and more people used the international language——English. As a second language, English language learning and teaching becomes a nationwide trend. But it is very difficult to imagine that one lacking culture of background language for the target country can carry on normal communication with people. And they are at loss of “high input, low output”. Facing the reality, we should let students experience the cultural atmosphere of an English country unconsciously. This requires the teacher to combine language teaching and culture teaching together organically too. Through the study of other languages and cultures, students gain a knowledge and understanding of cultures that use that language, and train students to use the ability of the language in terms of cross-cultural communication. We have long recognized that the forms uses of a given language reflect the cultural values of the society in which the language is spoken. How to speak English appropriately is also a problem we should solve today. Here is a paper that will supply the answers to the above problems and many similar ones.
