摘  要

与小学英语学习相比,中学生认为英语课并不轻松有趣。大多数学生英语学习动力低下。鉴于动机对英语学习的重要性,我们有必要对学习动机做一些研究来提高教学质量。这篇论文分为四个部分。第一章是一个总概述。第二章中将动机分为两大类—内部和外部动机。第三章作者简单地介绍了学习动机的个人与环境因素。首先,集中讲了四种个人因素:需要、情绪、信念以及目标。其次,教师应当使用情感教学,改变教学模式和创设情境。最后一章作者做了总结。这篇论文讨论了当今社会中学生英语学习动机程度不高而处在中等水平的原因。关于英语学习动机的研究可以让读者更好的了解中学生如何学习英语,更多的创新将会被运用到将来的教学实践当中。这方面的研究还有助于将教学重点从灌输知识与技能转为从根本上激励学生学习英语。

Abstract

Compared with the English study in primary schools, middle school students feel that English class is not relaxing and interesting. Most of them generally have a low degree of English learning motivation. Seeing that motivation is of great importance to English learning, it is a necessity to do some research on motivation in an attempt to improve the teaching quality. The paper can be divided into four parts. The first chapter is a general introduction. In the second chapter, it attempts to look into the main broad categories—intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. In the third chapter, the author will shortly introduce personal and environmental factors in English learning motivation. First, the paper will focus on these four personal factors: need, emotional state, belief, and goals. Second, teachers are told to use affect education, changing the educational model and creating a context. In the last chapter, the author makes a conclusion. The paper has discussed the reasons why contemporary middle school students' English learning motivation is not at the high level but in the medium. The research on English learning motivation will make readers have a better understanding of how middle school students learn English. Many innovations may be expected in the future that will be applied to the practical teaching and training. The research helps change its focus that lies in implanting knowledge and skills to students into how to fundamentally motivate students to learn English.

1 Introduction
In recent years, learning English has been a very prevalent tendency in china. Mastery of English is viewed as a passport to one’s future success. Along with an upsurge of learning English, the discussion about factors which impact on English academic performance has become a hot issue. In a nutshell, factors like learning motivation, age, gender, environment, etc. may have an effect on learning English. Learning motivation is regarded as one of the most dynamic factors. The existence of English learning motivation is the precondition that makes English learning process smoothly. So this thesis mainly examines the different categories of motivation and offers some suggestions for improving the learning motivation in English.
