Abstract

Communicative Approach in English teaching has gained wider approval to its achievements. In primary English classrooms, it is playing a more and more effective role. The paper begins with a brief introduction to the features of primary school students in learning, then explains what the Communicative Approach is as well as its features and techniques, and thereby further discusses strategies used in primary English classrooms. A sample lesson plan is given to illustrate the implementation of these useful strategies in primary English classrooms.

摘 要

交际法在英语教学中已得到了更广泛的认可。在小学英语课堂中,交际法的运用显得越来越有效。本文从简要介绍小学生的学习特点入手,进一步解释了交际法的定义以及其特征和运用技巧,从而讨论了本文的主旨—在小学英语课堂中运用不同的方法来激发小学生学习英语的兴趣。通过教案,进一步解释了这些有用的方法在小学英语课堂中的运用。

1.  Introduction
1.1    The ultimate purpose of learning a language
The significance of the existence of a language is for communication. The ultimate purpose of learning a language is to communicate with others in a society by it.
A communicative view of language is summarized by Richards and Rodgers in the following four aspects: a. Language is a system for the expression of meaning; b. The primary function of language is for interaction and communication; c. the structure of language reflects its functional and communicative uses; d. The primary units of language are not merely its grammatical and structural features, but categories of functional and communicative meaning as exemplified in discourse. (Richards and Rodgers 72).
1.2 The features of primary school students in learning
The study of psychology shows that children naturally have their own unique feeling and observation towards the world. They are active, filled with curiosity to the surroundings, fantastic to everything and always keeping creative. Children learn a language unconsciously only if they are learning in the natural environment. Besides, children also like imitating and they are quick learners.
