Abstract: In the course of second language acquisition, interlanguage fossilization is a widespread phenomenon. Interlanguage refers to the separate system of L2 learners, a system that has a structurally intermediate statue between the native and the target languages. Through revealing the fossilized errors in English sample compositions collected from 32 students in English 11(1) in Changzhou University, pinpointing the main contributors in forming fossilization, especially the influence of negative transfer of the mother tongue and displacing students’ different views on interlanguage fossilization, this paper mainly dwells on the discussion on three points: the most likely way the fossilization phenomena would take place, the causes of interlanguage fossilization and how to overcome this phenomenon. Above all the author gives such proper suggestions as increasing English input, strengthening English thinking pattern and taking the teaching feedback seriously. Through a series of follow-up investigation into these college students, the author hopes that the L2 learners can achieve complete second language competence in English writing and everyday communication.

摘  要:在二语习得的过程中,中介语僵化是个很普遍的现象。中介语是二语学习过程中学习者所使用的一种独立的语言系统。它是介于母语和目的语之间,在结构上过渡性的语言,以母语为出发点,不断发展并逐渐向目的语靠近。中介语僵化也成为二语习得研究者很关注的话题。该论文主要通过分析常州大学英语111班32名同学数次作文样本中僵化的表达,指出产生僵化的主要原因,尤其是母语负迁移的影响,以及根据对同学们的调查阐述学者对于僵化问题的看法,从根本上来回答以下三个问题:僵化现象常见的语言表现,产生僵化现象的原因以及克服僵化现象的手段。最重要的是,作者还提出了一些克服僵化的合理性建议,比如增加英文输入,加强英式思维模式,注重教学反馈。作者通过一系列对大学生的后续跟进调查,希望二语习得者在英文写作和日常交流中能够达到完全的二语水平。

SLA is a dynamic and developmental process, during which there exists a variety of difficulties in the way of further progress of L2 learners, and one of the problems, also called “interlanguage fossilization” is an inevitable “plateau” in the second language learning. Because of this, a lot of Chinese college students still make some errors in their writings and everyday communication, though having studied English for several years and reached a certain level. Let’s take the college students’ compositions as an example. English writing constitutes an important part of any kind of English tests, be it CET or TEM, while it is always a weak point of Chinese college students.
