Abstract

Language violence almost penetrates every corner of our lives and people should be more aware of its existence and avoid using it efficiently. This paper is an analysis of language violence in Desperate Housewives from the perspective of conversational implicature including reference and illocutionary force aiming at helping readers to avoid the use of language violence in the daily life. This paper introduces the special use of reference by analyzing examples of verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs. In the meantime, explanation of illocutionary force is also included in this paper.
Readers will know the harm of language violence thus will be good at talking and communicating with others. Language acts as the basic way of communication and exchange, so we should face up to it positively and avoid the use of language violence.
