Song of Mulan v.s. Mulan by Disneyland-Differences between Feminism in China and America
Abstract
Mulan is a traditional heroine in Chinese culture, but she chose to return home, left those glories and fame earned by her braveness and wisdom. However, Mulan in the movie by Disneyland could win respect from civilians and the emperor, and she found her true love in the end. Differences between the endings of two figures stems from a series of complicated reasons. This article analyzed reasons of these two different ending, and concluded that different ways of feminism in China and America are based on different cultural, social, and religious backgrounds.
   The first half of this thesis elaborates the history of feminism in China and western world, and the origin of feminism, preparing for analysis of reasons of differences between the endings of two Mulan. The second half of it analyzed obstacles in the way of improvement of feminism in China.
   Confucian culture suffocated women’s desire for freedom and equality; feudalism confiscated the freedom of women; the lack of religions in ancient China impeded burgeoning of feminism, leading to feminism beginning at a late time point compared with western world.

摘        要
花木兰是中国文化里的一位传统女英雄形象。但是花木兰在功成就名之后却选择回乡，告别自己曾经的荣誉和名声。这样的选择也着实无奈。而迪士尼动画电影《Mulan》中的花木兰在自己的女性身份被拆穿之后却异常勇敢、机智地拯救了自己的国家，拯救了至高无上的君王。最后，她得到了人民以及君王的尊重和赏识。她也最终收获了自己的爱情，同军官李翔双宿双飞。
从花木兰在中美两个作品中的不同结局可以看出女权主义在两国不同的发展史。两个花木兰的不同结局的原因则需要从文化背景、社会背景、宗教背景等因素来进行分析。
本论文从女权主义在中西方不同的发展史入手，探析了不同的发展背景所造成的文化、社会、宗教等因素对女权主义发展所造成的影响。得出了文化、社会、宗教背景是女权主义发展至为关键的三个因素。此三个因素会造就女权主义不同的发展形态以及发展水平。
论文前半部分详述了中国和西方女权主义的历史，女权主义的起源，为分析木兰不同结局奠定基础。论文后半部分详述了中国女权主义发展道路上的阻力。
孔文化扼杀了女性追求自由的愿望，封建制度没收了女性的自由，中国古代社会缺少宗教也限制了女性主义的兴起，导致中国女性主义在一个相对较晚的时间段才出现在历史上。
