Abstract:

Suzanne Collins is a famous American television writer and novelist. She is the author of the New York Times’ bestselling Underland Chronicles series, which has more than one million books in print and is available in seven foreign editions. The Hunger Games is written by Suzanne Collins, in which she continues to explore the effects of war and violence.
In The Hunger Games, sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen volunteers in her younger sister’s place to enter the games, and is forced to rely upon her sharp instinct as well as her strong mind when she is pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games in their entire lives. If she wants to return home securely, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weighs survival against humanity and life against love.
From the perspective of humanity, this thesis attempts to investigate goodness and wickedness in The Hunger Games. It guides the reader to get a better understanding of humanity under the extreme desperate circumstances. It concludes that the superficial representation of cruel act explores the deep meaning of human instinct; the ostensible presentation of love and friendship indicates the deep connotation of humane quality.

Key words: Suzanne Collins ; The Hunger Games; humanity
