摘要

本文以知名美剧《绝望主妇》中的台词为主要研究对象，从语用学层面对其中的委婉语进行分析，从而揭示出这部剧中委婉语所体现的当代文化现象。作者希望通过此研究可以使英语学习者熟悉委婉语的特征，并且了解英语语言国家文化，从而提高他们的跨文化交际能力。

Abstract

The thesis takes Desperate Housewives as the main analysis material and studies euphemisms in Desperate Housewives from the level of pragmatics, illustrating the contemporary cultural phenomenon represented by euphemisms. The author hopes to make the English learner familiar with the characteristics of euphemisms through this case study and have a rough idea of the culture of English speaking countries so as to improve their intercultural communicative competence.
