摘  要

习语是语言的精华，掌握好习语对英语学习者来说大有裨益。本文首先介绍英语习语的定义，然后对习语的特点进行阐述，分析金融新闻中的习语及其作用。研究方法包括文献研究法、抽样分析法和综合总结法。金融新闻因为其大量的专业术语和枯燥的数据而让不少读者感到头疼。然而在金融新闻中使用习语，将大大增加金融新闻的趣味性，因此金融新闻中习语的应用值得研究。到目前为止，已有不少的学者对习语的定义、特点、及其在教学中的应用进行研究。然而关于习语在金融类新闻中的研究却很匮乏。通过本文，作者希望帮助读者提高对学习英语习语的兴趣，从而读懂一些晦涩难懂的金融类新闻。

Abstract

An idiom is the essence of language. It is a unique fixed expression which exists in different professions of society. There is no denying the fact that a good command of idioms will benefit English learners a lot. This paper presents the study of idioms in financial coverage by introducing the definition and characteristics of idioms at first, then analyzing the application of idioms in financial news report as well as illustrating the pros and cons of idiom usage. Three research approaches are involved, i.e. literature method, summary and random sampling and discourse analysis. There is no doubt that people will encounter plenty of obstacles when they read the financial news report. They are confused by not only a large number of professional terms but also boring statistics. Regarding the advantages of idioms, some financial newspapers apply idioms to financial reports. Thus, it greatly increases the readability of financial news. It is worth discussing the idioms in the financial news which to some degree contributes to the understanding of financial coverage. So far, most studies concentrate on the definitions, features of idioms and idiom usage in teaching while the idiom application in financial news report is rarely discussed. Hopefully this paper could arouse people’s interest in idioms in the financial news so as to provide a better access to the understanding of some obscure financial passages.
