Abstract

The feminism approach to literature is considered to be an important way of interpreting literary works. Showalter points out the “female” identity to interpret the progress of female writers in self-awareness and writing experience. In this thesis, the differences and seminaries between Emma in Emma and Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice will be discussed. The heroines are different in characters and growth, but they share the virtues and happy marriages in common. The purpose is to analyze the changes of Jane Austen’s feminism. Simultaneously, Jane Austen, the perfect female writer in Virginia Woolf’s eyes, made her own progress in self-awareness and writing experience.

女性主义观点是一种重要的文学分析方法。肖沃尔特提出了妇女文学学说，这一理论阐释了女性的自我意识不断觉醒、文学经验不断丰富的历程。这篇论文将会比较《爱玛》中爱玛和《傲慢与偏见》中伊丽莎白的不同点和相同点。这两个女主角有着不同的性格和成长，但是他们也有类似的美德和美满的婚姻。论文旨在分析简•奥斯丁女性主义思想的改变。同时，这也是简•奥斯丁这位弗吉尼亚眼中最完美的女作家女性主义自我意识不断觉醒和文学经验不断丰富的体现。

1 Introduction
Jane Austen was a great Romantics female writer in 19th century. She is admired by most people and gains high reputations due to her 6 great works. Among her novels, Emma and Pride and Prejudice are the representatives.
During several decades, many people are fond of her works so deeply that they are interested in studying on her novels successively. And “The Janeites”are around the world. Some critics have generally discussed her novels from different perspectives, such as artistic skill, content and culture, etc.
All the studies focus on giving a better understanding of one of her novel through one aspect. Watt elieves Jane’s writing aims to the didactic traditional inherit from Fanny Burney. Simpson appreciates its realistic writing and ironic language. Many critics have observed that Pride and Prejudice and Emma are noteworthy among her other works. Lodge agrees that Emma is a master of her works. Maugham maintains that Pride and Prejudice is the best among all of Jane’s novels.
