摘要

美国是多种文化交融并冲突的阵地。从欧洲首批移民登陆与土著印第安人产生矛盾伊始，到非洲黑人被贩卖成为奴隶，种族矛盾就愈演愈烈，以至后来亚洲人移居美国，矛盾更加多样化和复杂化。文化冲突也就成为美国文学中经久不衰的主题。亚裔华人作家谭恩美创作的《喜福会》与非裔黑人作家爱丽丝•沃克所著的《日常家用》都由母女关系人手，分别从不同角度反映了这一主题。
本文以母女之间的冲突作为切入点，以内容分析以及对比论证作为研究方法，致力于研究由这两部文学作品所体现的文化冲突。文章首先简要阐述《喜福会》与《日常家用》的相关故事情节，总结出两部作品存在的相同之处。其次重点比较分析两部作品中文化冲突的形成、发展与结束，通过结合中西方学者的研究成果，对谭恩美和爱丽丝•沃克生平经历及笔下的母女人物所反映出来的文化冲突进行探讨与分析。最后进行归纳与总结，得出文化冲突是时代的需求，一个不可避免的时代产物这一结论。
本文不仅是对《喜福会》与《日常家用》这两部文学作品的补充研究，同时有助于解读文化冲突这一不可避免的时代产物。

Abstract

America is one place in which it integrates different kinds of cultures into together. Usually, conflicts will be formed between these cultures. From the beginning of first immigration of Europeans who developed the contradiction with Indians to the selling of African Blacks being slaves, the cultural conflict becomes more and more intensive. After the later Asian immigration, the contradiction is more diversified and complicated. Cultural conflict is the unfailing theme in American literature. Both The Joy Luck Club written by Asian American writer, Amy Tan, and Everyday Use written by African American writer, Alice Walker, start the writing from mother-and-daughter relationship and then reflect this theme through the analysis of different aspects.
This thesis employs the conflict between mother and daughter as the entry point. It adopts content analysis and comparison and contrast as the writing methods. It first gives a brief introduction about the contents of The Joy Luck Club and Everyday Use and summarizes the similarities; then it mainly deals with comparative analysis of the cause, development and ending of cultural conflicts through the combination of the researches conducted by scholars from home and abroad, and analyzes hidden cultural conflicts by exploring Amy Tan, Alice Walker and their figures. At last, it makes the summary and gets to the final conclusion that cultural conflict is the need of the time.
The result of this thesis will be a supplement to the research on The Joy Luck Club and Everyday Use and will also help us to gain insight into the cultural conflict which is the inevitable product of the time.
