摘要

目前对于《远大前程》的研究主要分为四个方向，一是叙事技巧的研究，二是成长主题的研究，三是忏悔形象的研究，四是仁爱的感化力量。本文深入剖析郝维香小姐悲剧命运形成的深层原因，从社会背景，家庭观念以及人物自身的心态出发，揭示人物悲剧命运形成的原因，加深读者对郝维香小姐人物形象的理解，揭示一个良好的社会氛围、正确的家庭教育以及个人坚强心态的重要性。

Abstract

    Nowadays, the study of Great Expectations has four branches：narrative technique, growth, images of confession and power of love. This paper analyzes the reasons that lead to Miss Havisham’s mournful fate. Starting from the social background, family concept and the person herself, I would like to uncover how important these three factors are to human’s characters and lives. In this way, I hope to deepen readers’ understanding of the figure--Miss Havisham, and remind people that good social atmosphere, correct family education and a strong heart are essential for a generation.

1.Introduction
Charles Dickens, who is considered to be one of the greatest critical realistic writers in 19th century, has released various aspects in Victorian Age in England through his works. His works have caused great impact on the entire literature, among which Great Expectations is his post-stage work and is more mature. In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens fashioned his female characters into vivid figures, among which Miss Havisham is the most impressive and cillf-hanging one. When people read about her, most of them consider her to be neurotic and vicious. She lost her mind because of her fiancé’s discard. In this novel, Charles Dickens gave her sufficient description to reveal wamen’s mournful social status in that male-centered society, and the tragic fate of Miss Havisham shows the corruption of money to human nature. The writer presented the real lives of women in Victorian England in this way. At that particular era, women were expected to be obedient. They should rely on their husband and be subject to them always. And in family, women had no voice, while instead, they should sacrifice themselves to the whole family. Actually Miss Havisham in Great Expectations is not the same as these characters. So the formation will be analyzed from the points of the society, her family and herself, revealing how environment affects life. I would like to go deep into the reasons that make Miss Havisham such a personand show that any evil has a cause behind. Then we could understand the reasons beneath the surface and try to have a soft place in our hearts.
