Abstract: Sexism in English language has improved along with the vigorous development of women’s liberation movement since the end of 1960s. But we can also find some phenomena of sexism in English. As a mirror reflecting the society, language images the social views and values. Sexism in society is thus inevitably reflected in the use of language. The paper analyzes sexism from the viewpoint of implicature. Implicature means what a speaker can imply, suggest, or mean, as distinct from what the speaker literally says. And it has four maxims: Quality, Quantity, Relation and Manner. That is to say, if phenomena listed in the paper violate maxims of implicature, they may contain the meaning of sexism. This paper consists of three main parts. Firstly, the paper lists three aspects to analyze the phenomenon of sexism. They are appellation, proverb and advertisement. In every aspect, the paper lists a dialogue and then analyzes what maxim a dialogue violates and what meaning it contains. Secondly, the paper explains the reasons why sexism generates. And it lists three factors: cultural, social and physiological. At last, the paper puts forward some strategies to erase the phenomenon.

摘  要:自20世纪60年代起，随着女性解放运动的发展，英语中的性别歧视现象也为之减少。但是我们仍然可以发现一些性别歧视的现象。语言是社会现实的一种反映，能够反映社会的观点和价值。尤其是社会中的性别歧视现象一览无余地体现在语言的使用上。本文主要从隐含意义的角度来分析性别歧视。隐含意义指的是说话者所暗含、建议或者意味着的意思，这区别于说话者表面字词上的意思。并且隐含意义有四个准则。它们分别是:质的准则、量的准则、关系准则和方式准则。那也就是说，如果文章中列举的那些现象违背了隐含意义中的准则，他们就可能含有性别歧视的含义。本文由三部分组成。首先，本文从三方面来阐述性别歧视的现象。他们是称谓语，谚语和广告。在每一方面里，本文将列举一个对话，从对话中分析，它违背了什么准则，同时包含了什么意思。第二部分，阐述性别歧视产生的原因有哪些。它们分别是:文化原因，生理原因和社会原因。最后，本文将提出一些消除性别歧视的策略。
