Abstract: Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby has established a good fame in the world. The evaluation of the female character is mixed. Most critics think Daisy is the murderer who leads to Gatsby’s death. This paper wants to analyze the character Daisy from feminism and gives her a fair evaluation. Through the study of her “other” image, the author wants to explore the reasons which lead her tragedy and feel female’s helplessness and confusion in the margin of patriarchal society. Firstly, from the analysis of the image of “well-behaved girl”, the author works out that in patriarchal society, “father” deprives of daughter’s freedom of marriage and love; then from the analysis of the image of “golden lady”, the author thinks that as a husband betrays his marriage and leads her to corruption; Finally, from the analysis of the image of “ideal goddess”, the author realizes that lover’s cheat and force aggravates her tragedy. Based on the analysis of the three important men in Daisy’s life and also her images’ setters, the author proves that they are the murderers who directly lead to Daisy’s tragic life and concludes that Daisy is a victim in a patriarchal society. This paper suggests that people should pay more attention to the life of women who live in the bottom of society and give them more care and understanding.
