Abstract

Desire Under the Elms, is one of famous works of American playwright Eugene O'Neill (1888---1953), written in the style of Greek tragedy in 1924. When the drama was ended, it has aroused a great number of focus and comments from all aspects of people.
This thesis attempts, by mentioning the theory of psychoanalysis of Freud as its theoretical basis, to analyze Oedipus Complex in Desire under the Elms. When studying Oedipus Complex in Desire under the Elms through analyzing the points: embodiment of mother in the play--- the elms; Eben’s Oedipus Complex in kinship and in love, the readers may find why Eben’s Oedipus Complex comes into being and develops and influences his life in return. Besides, this thesis also offers a more comprehensive understanding of the Eugene O’Neill himself, which would help readers know the generate reasons of Oedipus Complex.
And finally, the thesis sublimates to the psychological problem on modern society and on children’s psychological education, that is, psychological disability is much more serious than physical disability, and much more attention should be paid to children’s psychological education and harmonious family relationship should be established.

摘要

《榆树下的欲望》（1924）是美国剧作家尤金•奥尼尔（1888---1953）的著名剧作之一。当该剧本演出后，受到了评论界的广泛关注，评论者们纷纷从各自的角度对它进行评述。
本论文以弗洛伊德的心理分析理论为基础，对该剧本里的恋母情结进行分析，如通过“母亲”的化身——榆树在剧本中的象征分析；从家庭关系角度和爱情角度看伊本的恋母情结等，从而让读者了解伊本恋母情结的产生、发展以及对其生活的影响。本论文还对作者尤金•奥尼尔的生平有所介绍，这对读者对恋母情结的产生原因有更多的理解。
最后，本论文还延伸到心理疾病对当代社会及青少年心理的影响，即人一生中最痛苦的是心理的残缺而非身体的残缺，从而呼吁社会应对孩子的心理教育给予更多的关注，并强调家庭和谐关系的重要性。
