摘要：

《指环王》与《西游记》是中西方两本奇幻文学著作。细看这两部小说，就不难发现它们有诸多相似之处：都是描述一个团队为完成一桩神圣使命历尽千辛万苦的故事；沿途都有各种磨难和妖怪挑战；都有一位弱得不像话的核心人物，却有力量很强的伙伴帮助等等。同时，二者有许多差异：一个是史诗巨作，一个是魔幻著作；本论文通过对比二者在：英雄的选定、力量的来源、正邪的划分、使命的安排、对命运的抗争等多方面差异，发现中西方在思维方式、思想开放程度、个人主义与集体主义等多方面存在不同。并探讨了造成中西方价值观差异的深层原因是：农耕文明与海洋文明、文化积累时间长度、技术革命等等。

Abstract:

The Lord of the rings and Journey to the west are two of the most famous in fantasy literature. Scrutiny of the two novels, it is not difficult to find they have many similarities: both describe a team to complete the story of a sacred mission after innumerable hardships; there are all kinds of hardships and monster challenges along the way; there is a weak central figure, but strong partners to help them, and so on. At the same time, there are many differences: one is an epic, another is a fantasy literature; Other differences are: the choice of hero, the source of the strength, and the division of good and evil, the mission and so on. Through the comparison, it is found that the Westerners and the Chinese are different in their way of thinking, the openness of ideology, individualism and collectivism. And thins paper also discusses the reasons that cause the difference between Western values and the Chinese values, such as agriculture country and industrial countries, the time of  cultural accumulation, the technological revolution, etc..

1. Introduction 
   By today's standards, known as one of the four classical Chinese Literature Journey to the west, undoubtedly belongs to a kind of fantasy literature the author of The Lord of the rings Tolkien is 300 years early than Wu. Tolkien is also a versatile writer, is considered as one of the most famous scholars in twentieth Century British literature, well known by the amazing talent with language and literature of the University of Oxford Professor, although not what academic achievements, but full of wit. Under the surface of a Fantasy Novel, there are many realities. Fantasy can comes from reality, and becomes higher than reality. By studying a fantasy novel, we can get to know the inner world and fantasy space of a writer. The world in a fantasy novel is sometimes the beautified or defaced version of the living world of a writer. Maybe he is not very happy with the government, and he wants to write something to criticize the government. The two books have many things in common, yet many differences. Knowing the background of the book is very important, knowing the writer is also important. Through the comparison we can know the difference between the way of thinking under a certain historical backgrounds, and further, the Chinese and Western values.
