摘要：

随着全球化的发展，中西方文化不断的交流互动，东方的中国文化与西方的美国文化的交流互动更是备受瞩目。阅读学习美国文学小说，为中国更好地了解美国文化提供了有效途径；而对美国文学小说中人物性格的研究，能更好的解读美国特定时代的社会背景与其美好的寄托。马克吐温是美国著名作家，他的作品《哈克贝利•费恩历险记》在美国文学史上起着举足轻重的作用。本论文以萨特存在主义为理论，着重研究此层面上《哈克贝利•费恩历险记》中哈克与吉姆的人物性格特征。本论文研究的目的在于阐述萨特存在主义的三个主要原则：“存在先于本质”，“世界是荒谬的”，“自由选择”，以及在此原则背景下运用小说中具体事例对哈克与吉姆进行人物性格分析。

Abstract:

With the development of globalization, the interaction between the eastern culture and the western culture attracts much attention, especially between Chinese culture and American culture. Learning and reading American literature novels can make it an effective way to have a better understanding of American culture for Chinese. Besides, studying on the character of the main figures in American literature novels not only can well interpret some certain social background in America but also can learn about the wonderful sustenance. Mark Twain is a famous American writer, and his work The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn plays an important role in the history of American literature. This paper focuses on the character analysis of Huck and Jim in the novel of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn on the theory of Sartre’s Existentialism. The aim of this research is to set forth three main principles of Sartre’s Existentialism: “existence precedes essence”, “the world is absurd”, “freedom of choice”, and to utilize concrete examples in the novel analyzing Huck and Jim’s character based on this three principles of Sartre’s Existentialism.

Therefore, the author chooses character analysis of Huck and Jim in Mark Twain’s novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as the subject of this paper.
