摘要

《德伯家的苔丝》是哈代最优秀的长篇小说之一，故事讲述了一位对爱情无私、忠诚的姑娘苔丝的悲惨命运。长久以来，很多研究这部小说的学者都把研究的焦点放在女主人公苔丝的身上。苔丝在经历了无情的命运、贫穷的家庭、怯懦的性格、风流不羁的亚力克和冷酷无情的安吉尔之后，一步步走向了死亡。在众多因素中，安吉尔是造成苔丝悲剧的真正凶手，在他“天使”的光环下隐藏着的是他虚伪、自私的本质。本文将会通过文献资料查询，结合小说中的实例深度分析安吉尔·克莱尔的双重性格，从而得出安吉尔·克莱尔这一形象对女主人公苔丝悲剧的影响。

Abstract

Tess of the D’Urbervilles is one of the most representative works of Thomas Hardy which belongs to Hardy’s Wessex series. It tells a story about the tragic fate of Tess who is loyal and unselfish to love. For a long time, many scholars studying this novel focus much on heroine Tess. Tess pushes her life into an end after going through the relentless destiny, poor family, timid personality, unruly Alex and cool Angel. Among these factors, Angel is a real murderer of Tess‘s tragedy. What truly conceals under his “angel” halo is hypocritical and selfish essence. This thesis will discuss the dual characteristic of Angel Clare with the example in the novel as well as the document literature, so as to draw the conclusion that Angle Clare contributes to Tess’s tragedy indirectly.
